Why a Peloton Bike is Worth Your Money

WHAT IS A PELOTON BIKE?

The Peloton Bike is a sophisticated indoor bicycle equipped with a Wi-Fi–enabled, 22″ touchscreen that streams both live and on-demand classes. The 22″ screen allows riders to compete with other participants while getting an intense cardio workout in the comfort of their own home.

WHY DID I BUY ONE?

My history of exercise has been subpar at best. As a 34 year-old mom of two I despise gyms, I hate to run, and my unpredictable work hours make it hard to stick to a regular workout routine. One day in early October, I went out with some of my friends and the next day I had a terrible hangover.  I was laying in bed, scrolling thru my phone and suddenly I had an urge to do a cardio workout to cure my hangover. I had heard great things about Peloton from my sister so I went online and few clicks later I had purchased a Peloton bike. Two weeks later the bike was delivered and my obsession with Peloton cycling ensued.

WHY I LOVE IT

  1. The Instructors. There are 20+ Peloton bike instructors and they are all FANTASTIC. They are poised and engaging, with big, unique personalities that make the classes all feel different from one another. My favorite instructor is Cody Rigsby, followed by Kendall Toole, Alex Touissant, and Jess King. I love that I can choose any on-demand class and my mood dictates which instructor I choose. If I am fired up and ready to work out I choose Alex or Jess. Cody and Kendall motivate me every time and are my constants. Cody is gay, fabulous, and hilarious and his pep talks throughout the rides give me life.
  2. The Flexibility. Peloton broadcasts 10 to 14 live cycling classes a day from its studio on 23rd Street in Manhattan, from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. “Encore” classes are reaired live classes, with new live leaderboards, that fill out the schedule when actual live classes are not available. I have never taken a live class because I usually dont plan my workouts ahead of time. I love that I could take any class at 5AM or 8 PM depending on my work schedule and my kids activities.
  3. The Community. Even though you’re riding at home alone, it feels like you’re part of a group. There are a lot of Facebook groups that keep people motivated and inspired. I haven’t gotten into the Leaderboard rankings and I don’t high-five people during the rides, but I do enjoy the Facebook motivation.
  4. The Look. The bike is sleek. And the slim frame doesn’t take up much room. I have it on our basement storage room that was transformed into a workout room, but if you don’t have a basement or an extra room the bike would fit in any living room or bedroom.

THE PRICE

The price tag is high, there is no denying it. So I broke down the required costs for the bike, some nice-to-haves, as well as financing and discount codes to help with the cost:

Required:

Peloton Bike: $2,245 (includes delivery but not tax) OR $58 per month for 39 mos at 0% financing. That price includes a limited warranty that covers the tablet, mechanics, parts, and service from issues related to normal wear and tear for one year (and five years for the bike frame).

Peloton Monthly Membership: $39 per month. This is necessary to get access to the 7,000+ instructor classes which is the best part about the bike.

Cycling Shoes: Peloton shoes cost $125. BUT you can get $100 off accessories when you purchase the bike if you use the discount code MYTAKE at checkout. If you want to use the $100 discount code on other bike accessories and don’t want to pay $125 for Peloton brand shoes, there are cheaper compatible cycling shoes for purchase on Amazon (such as these for only $62.95).

Nice to Have:

Weights: $25 for a pair of 1, 2, or 3-pound dumbbells for the upper-body exercises. The intervals and arms rides are my favorite and 3 pounds doesn’t seem challenging but trust me, your arms will be dead (especially with Kendall).

Bike Mat: $60 (recommended to protect hardwood floors)

RIDE FOR TWO

If you are a couple who both exercise but one of you is on the fence about getting a bike – trust me, you won’t regret it! At first my husband Matt didn’t have any interest in the bike but now he is even more obsessed than me.

At the risk of sounding dramatic, the Peloton bike has truly changed my life and has made my husband and I happier and healthier. Message me if you have any questions!
