A Splash of Spring

I CAN’T BELIEVE TODAY IS THE 1ST DAY OF SUMMER.  SPRING WAS FULL OF SO MANY FUN TIMES AND MEMORIES THAT IT FEELS LIKE SUMMER STARTED MONTHS AGO.

HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM SPRING IN OUR NEW HOME:

NEIGHBORS, NEIGHBORS….AND DID I MENTION NEIGHBORS???

WE WITHOUT A DOUBT HAVE THE BEST NEIGHBORS IN THE WORLD. IT IS HARD TO TELL WHO IS HAPPIER – THE KIDS OR THE PARENTS EVERY NIGHT AS WE JOIN IN THE STREET TO HAVE COCKTAILS AND WATCH OUR KIDS PLAY.

L TO R FROM 1ST ROW: CHARLIE WITH OUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS DEXTER AND KINSLEY; THE ERSKINE STREET CREW CHEERSING WITH POPSICLES; CHARLIE CRUISING AROUND WITH SWEET MAX; CHARLIE AND KINSLEY ADDING TO THEIR FROG COLLECTION; DEXTER DOING WHAT HE DOES BEST; CHARLIE WITH HER NEIGHBOR CHARLIE (THESE TWO ARE TOO MUCH ALIKE IT BLOWS MY MIND); AND FINALLY OUR HILARIOUS NEIGHBOR KURT MAKING THOMAS LAUGH.

LET’S GO HUSKER UNICORNS!

I WILL GIVE YOU ONE GUESS ON WHO THEY LET NAME THIS SOFTBALL TEAM. AT THIS AGE UNICORNS ARE LIFE. COMBINE THAT WITH 13 NEBRASKA GIRLS AND YOU GET ONE HECK OF A UNIQUE NAME FOR A GIRLS T-BALL TEAM.

WE HAD SO MUCH FUN WATCHING CHARLIE PLAY ON HER FIRST SPORTS TEAM. THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT CHARLIE WATCHING HER ON HER FIRST TEAM: SHE IS COMPETITIVE (SHOCKER), SHE IS A VERY FAST RUNNER (DIDN’T GET THAT FROM ME), AND SHE CRIED WHEN THE SEASON WAS OVER LAST NIGHT BECAUSE SHE LOVED IT SO MUCH. SOCCER SEASON IS NEXT BUT WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT SOFTBALL SEASON WITH THESE FUN GIRLS.

ONE LAST RUN FOR #11

MATT IS MAKING FUN OF ME BECAUSE I AM STILL NOT OVER IT, BUT LAST WEEK WE SAID GOODBYE TO THE GREATEST COLLEGE BASEBALL COACH TO EVER MAKE HIS WAY TO OMAHA. I GREW UP GOING TO COLLEGE WORLD SERIES GAMES MY WHOLE LIFE. MIKE MARTIN IS WELL KNOWN AROUND OMAHA FOR HIS SUCCESS IN BRINGING FLORIDA STATE TO OMAHA. AND AS ONE OMAHA WORLD HERALD WRITER STATED: “NOBODY, AND I MEAN NOBODY, LOVES OMAHA AS MUCH AS MIKE MARTIN”. AT THE START OF THIS YEAR’S BASEBALL SEASON # 11 ANNOUNCED 2019 WOULD BE HIS LAST SEASON AS HEAD COACH. AND EVEN THOUGH THE FSU SEMINOLES WERE NOT PREDICTED TO BE ONE OF THE 8 TEAMS TO HEAD TO OMAHA THIS YEAR, THEY SHOCKED EVERYONE AND MADE THEIR WAY BACK FOR ONE LAST RUN AT A TROPHY FOR #11.

I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING EVERY WEEK BACK AND FORTH FROM VANCOUVER, BUT LUCKILY MY SCHEDULE ALLOWED ME TO GO TO ALL 3 GAMES THAT THE SEMINOLES PLAYED IN OMAHA. FOR TWO OF THE GAMES MATT AND I GOT TO WATCH THE GAME FROM MY COMPANY’S BOX SUITE WHICH WAS CONVENIENTLY LOCATED CLOSE TO THE SEMINOLE BOOSTERS BOX. I AM NOT SHY OF COURSE SO I HAD NO PROBLEM INTRODUCING MYSELF TO THE BOOSTERS CHAIRMAN AND ALSO TO MIKE MARTIN’S FAMILY. HIS WIFE IS OFFICIALLY THE SWEETEST PERSON ON THE PLANET AND WAS HAPPY TO TAKE A PIC WITH ME.

EVEN THOUGH #11 DIDN’T LEAVE OMAHA WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY, WE FEEL LUCKY TO HAVE WATCHED HIM ONE LAST TIME WITH THE GREATEST OF COMPANY. WE WILL MISS YOU MIKE – THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!

SUNS OUT GUNS OUT

IT FEELS LIKE WE SKIPPED SPRING WEATHER-WISE AND WENT STRAIGHT TO SUMMER. WHICH MEANT LOTS OF OUTDOOR PLAY BOTH IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND AT MY SISTER’S HOUSE SWIMMING IN HER NEW POOL. WE ARE SO HAPPY TO BE BACK CLOSE TO FAMILY AFTER BEING 1,500 MILES AWAY THE PAST 2 YEARS. IT HAS MADE MATT AND I’S LIVES SO MUCH EASIER AND HAPPIER IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DESCRIBE. WE STILL MISS OUR DAD TERRIBLY AND ARE TRYING OUR BEST TO HELP OUR STEP-DAD FEEL BETTER DURING HIS BATTLE WITH HEALTH ISSUES. KNOWING LIFE IS TOO SHORT HAS MADE US APPRECIATE THIS SPRING SEASON MORE THAN EVER.

CHEERS TO THE START OF SUMMER FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS!
